Kings of the Wyld

Book of the month (December)

As I wrote, I am into fantasy as well as games, so I will cover what I read in articles as well.

This last December I read Kings of the Wyld, it was a very good book. I like that the story is concise and to the point. The prose was also good, but with some usage of foul language here and there, which makes sense in the context of what the book tries to be.

The image is that we have “bands”, group of adventurers that function like a rock band, slaying monsters and gathering fame and fortune. But there is a twist: our main band is retired.

The group will get together to one more adventure. A final epic conclusion to their band.

The beginning of the book is based on what every member is doing currently, 20 years after their last gig. It is refreshing to have this kind of take in a fantasy universe. We are presented to each member in order, to for the band and go on their final adventure.

To no spoil much, I will say that the book has good hook points, and a good prose. It also has a satisfactory ending, giving a sense that this is a stand alone book.

In reality there are 2 more books in the series: Blood Rose and a third book not released yet. I still have to read the second book (which I already have), but it will take a back seat now, as I have other readings to do.

The 3rd book has no real date to be released, it suffered from delays many times over, due to unfortunate circumstances in the author life. So I don’t expect it to come any time soon.

But all for all, the single volume Kings of the Wyld is good enough of a reading.

Go pick it up if you are interested.

Cheers,

Ren
